  Using The Resources

Learning for Life fits the criteria for A Curriculum for Excellence, where every lesson should cover the four capacities of education:

  • successful learners
  • confident individuals
  • responsible citizens
  • effective contributors

Teachers using materials to develop these four areas are equipping their pupils for the future with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to be first class citizens.

Wisdom, justice, compassion and integrity are the words inscribed on the mace of the Scottish Parliament.  These words have helped to define values for Scottish society.

The Curriculum Review Group says: ‘One of the prime purposes of education is to make our young people aware of the values on which Scottish society is based and so help them to establish their own stances on matters of social justice and personal and collective responsibility. Young people therefore need to learn about and develop these values.  The curriculum is an important means through which this personal development should be encouraged.’

Learning for Life is a values education, life skills programme aiming to foster health, safety, personal and social development and to encourage good citizenship.  By bringing key social issues into the classroom, it offers a continuum of learning for 5-13 year olds and promotes a positive ethos within the school community.

Learning for Life fully supports the Health Promoting School, providing effective lessons to support the development of physical, social and emotional health for all nursery and primary aged children.
